Bishop Walter Earl Jordan

MANSFIELD: Bishop Walter Earl Jordan was born June 11, 1940 to Felix and Sylvia Willie Maude (Woodson) Jordan in Mansfield, Ohio and departed this life Sunday, December 30, 2012.

Bishop has been described as a great husband, dad, pastor, friend, brother, uncle, social worker, counselor and most importantly, an ambassador and example of God's love. Bishop Walter Earl Jordan received his early education through Mansfield Public Schools and continued his studies at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA., The Ohio State University in Mansfield, Ohio and the Ashland Theological Seminary. Bishop Jordan was consecrated Prelate of the Ohio North First Jurisdiction (ONFJ) of the Church of God in Christ on October 21, 2000. Under his leadership, the jurisdiction grew to a collective of 115 congregations representing a variety of churches throughout the state of Ohio. He was appointed Pastor of Greater St. John Church of God in Christ and retired after 40 years of faithful service. His legacy continues at the Oasis of Love (Greater St. John COGIC) under the current leadership of his son, Elder Walter Jordan II.

Left to celebrate his life is his loving wife of forty-eight years, Lady Shirley A. Jordan; his children, Nikki (Christopher, Sr.) Thorpe of Pittsburgh, PA, Addi, Walter II and Sylvia Jordan of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, Christin Nikole, Tilo Shirlee, Nikolas Christopher and Christopher Jr. (C.J); sisters, Sharlene (Coyet) Jeter and Carolyn Ann (Charles) Reed; sisters-in-law, Ethelene Jordan, Annie Jordan, Addie Burrage, Henrietta (George) Holmes and Jacqueline Baker; godchildren, Robert Earl Duncan, Garlan (PG) McCruter, and June (JP) Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; the Ohio North First Jurisdiction family, the Mansfield District and the Oasis of Love (Greater St. John COGIC).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Sylvia Jordan; brothers, Felix Jr., George "Billy Red", William "Dee Dee", James and John Jordan; and sister, Gladys Marie Burton.

Celebration of Life Services, 7:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, Oasis of Love (Greater St. John COGIC) 190 Chester Ave., Mansfield, Ohio 44903. Family will receive friends at 5:00 p.m. until time of service. Celebration of Life Services also, 12:00 noon, Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, Crossroads Church 1188 N. Park Ave. W., Mansfield, Ohio 44906.
