MANSFIELD: John J. Luedy, Sr., 82, of Mansfield, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield. Born May 21, 1930 in Lexington, he was the son of John Herbert Luedy and Ella Louise (Winkler) Luedy Schmidt.
John was a member of First United Methodist Church. He worked at Isaly's and then as a letter carrier for the US Post Office, where he retired after 30 years. John was a member of the Madison Board of Education for 12 years, serving as president for eight years. He also served as secretary for the Madison Zoning Board of Appeals. He enjoyed fishing with his family, at home and at Lake Erie, and camping. John spent many winters in Florida staying in various homes that he would buy and fix up. Family was always very important to him and he loved working on family projects and caring for family members.
He is survived by his wife, M. Viola (Jones) Luedy of Mansfield, whom he married on April 8, 1951; sons, John J. (Donna) Luedy, Jr. and Ronald E. Luedy, both of Mansfield; daughter, Jody (Michael) Shockley of Mansfield; grandchildren, John C. (Erin) Luedy, Krista (Brian) Schmidt, Kelly (Doug) Anschutz, Andy (Sarah) Gerber, Logan Scheurer, and Jacquelyn Luedy; great grandchildren, Ella and Jakob Schmidt, Brady and Baron Anschutz, and Jaxon and Maxdyn Luedy; sister, Mildred "Babe" Myers of Mansfield; brothers, Clarence G. Luedy and Eugene Luedy, both of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elsie Powell, Florence Beer, and Marie Stainbrook.
Friends may call Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Windsor Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
