ONTARIO: With deep sadness we announce the death of our son, father, fiancée, brother and friend. Jason Ricardo Valles, better known as "Rico", age 39, fought a long battle from brain surgery. On January 27, 2013 he passed away peacefully at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital. Jason was born August 28, 1973 in Phoenix, Arizona to Felipe Valles and Diane Hammock. He lived most of his life in the Mansfield area and spent three years in the U.S. Air Force. Jason was an avid sports fan. He loved golf, football, baseball, basketball and really loved fantasy football and racing. Much to his Aunt Pat's dismay he was a Michigan Wolverine fan, a Chicago Bears and a Los Angeles Lakers fan. He looked forward to the Michigan and Ohio State game every year. Jason most enjoyed the time spent with his children, fiancée, family and friends.
Jason is survived by his mother, Diane (Fisher) Hammock; daughters, Amber and Jayden; stepdaughter, Judy; his loving and caring fiancée, Rhiannon Wachtel and her children, Cayden and Lexi. He also leaves three brothers, George (Sue) Knaggs, Geoff (Kim) Knaggs and Brian (Denise) Knaggs; a sister, Felicia Valles; two aunts, Pat (Gary) McAfee and Marcia (Dan) Rose; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jay Barth and Jeremy Price. He will be missed by all who knew him. Jason was preceded in death by his father, Felipe Valles; stepfather, Richard Hammock; grandparents; and cousin, Bryan McAfee.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Berean Baptist Church, 2145 Middle Bellville Road, Mansfield. Pastor Jim Berry will conduct the service. Friends and family may visit beginning at 12:00 p.m. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario, OH 44906.
