Robert I. Piper

BELLVILLE: Robert I. Piper, 75, of Bellville passed away Wednesday morning February 13, 2013 in Country Meadow Care Center following an extended illness.

Bob was born August 30, 1937 in Deemston, Pennsylvania the son of Willis and Maybelle (Colbert) Piper. A Marine Corps veteran, Bob was honorably discharged serving from 1955-1959. Working the tow motor, Bob retired from the General Motors Ontario plant, after working over 46 years.

A racing enthusiast, Bob was drawn to the thrill of racing. For decades he raced stock and sprint cars, in Mansfield, Wooster, Lakeville and other area tracks. Easy to please, Bob also loved vacationing… he preferred anywhere warm.

Bob was a member of the Bellville American Legion Post #535, life member of AMVETS Post #43, was a 32nd degree member of the Bellville Masonic Lodge #376, and past patron of the Ruth Chapter #17 Order of the Eastern Star.

Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Sam and Lynette Piper and granddaughter Amanda Piper all of Butler; also his large circle of dear friends from the Bellville American Legion Post # 535 and Bellville AMVET Post #43.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Curr.

The family will receive friends Saturday morning, February 16, 2013 from 10am-12pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where Masonic Services will begin at 12 noon. Pastor Jon Priebe will officiate and military honors performed by the Bellville American Legion Post #535 will follow at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Bellville American Legion Post #535 or Bellville AMVETS Post #43 may be made through the funeral home.
