MANSFIELD: Donald R. "Rooster" Jennings, age 74, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born March 5, 1938 in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was the son of the late Purdy and Sylvia (Gifford) Jennings. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army and member of McElroy Rd. Church of Christ. Affectionately known as "Rooster" and "Noodle Elf", he retired from General Motors and was a member of the GM Retirees Group. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns. An outdoorsman, he loved fishing, gardening and vacationing in Pigeon Forge and Salt Fork State Park. In his spare time, he could be found at his computer.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. (Adams) Jennings; two daughters, Deborah (John) Whaley and Dawn Etzel, both of Mansfield; grandsons, Connor, Morgan, Tanner and Caiden; a granddaughter, Payton; a sister, Barbara (Paul) Barnhart of West Alexandria, OH; two brothers, Gordon (Linda) Jennings of Bentonville, AR and Larry (Judy) Jennings of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt and uncle who raised him, Russ and Goldie Andre.
Friends and family may visit from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Minister Dan Nichols will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to McElroy Rd. Church of Christ Youth Fund.
