MANSFIELD: Earl Elwood Gilliam, age 83, passed away late Thursday evening, March 7, 2013 at MedCentral Shelby Hospital. Born March 9, 1929 in Harris, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Roy and Ardath (Butler) Gilliam. Earl was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He was the Business Representative for Local #1216 Construction Labor Union for 50 years. Earl possessed a gentle, caring demeanor and enjoyed volunteering his time to help others, and most especially with the Toys for Tots program. In his spare time, he could be found attending auctions, repairing small engines, gardening and canning his home grown vegetables.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Williams of Killeen, TX and Sherry Huntington of Vanceburg, KY; four grandchildren, Anthony, Noel, Brandon and Brittany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Ruth (Richmond) Gilliam and son, Gene Gilliam.
A funeral service conducted by Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S.
