SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP: Jack A. Spangler, 81, of Springfield Township, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013, "Let Earth end and Heaven start". Born August 11, 1931 in Crestline, Ohio, he was the son of Albert and Edith (Danals) Spangler. He was a graduate of Crestline High School and soon afterwards married the love of his life, Betty Kordish.
As a young man, he worked many jobs and retired from General Motors. Jack was also active for many years as a Springfield Township Trustee, served as President and was currently the Event Coordinator of the Richland County Fairgrounds and was a member of the Mens Garden Club. He also served on the football chain crew for Ontario High School until 2011.
Jack had many passions in life ~ family and his church foremost, being a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as President of Council. He loved to restore and show tractors (winning multiple awards) and was a member of the Buckeye Iron Will Tractor Club. He also enjoyed woodworking to create gifts for grandchildren and tending to the flowers and landscaping at home.
He is survived by a son, Dennis (Vicki) Spangler of Ontario; two daughters, Debbie (Bruce) Boyce of Springfield Township and Diane (Dan) Wolfe of Westerville; grandchildren, Todd Spangler, Aaron Spangler, Scott (Casey) Boyce, Brett (Stephanie) Boyce, Cassie (James) Taylor, Cory (Kelly) Baumberger and Benjamin Baumberger; great grandchildren, Aiden Baumberger and Cierra, Bryce and Phoenix Boyce; and a sister, Millie Simmermacher of Crestline. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty who passed in April 2011; a brother, Charles; and four sisters, Marie, Edith, Mercedis and Marg.
Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Crestline conducted by Pastor Diana Seaman. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
