GALION: James H. Music, 87, of Galion, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Galion Community Hospital.
Born October 6, 1925 in Marion, he was the son of the late William E. and Mildred (Endicott) Music. He was preceded in death on October 20, 2010 by his wife, Edna G. (Somerlot) Music whom he married on June 19, 1947 at the First Church of Christ in Galion.
Jim was a graduate of Water Loo High School in New Marshfield. A World War II veteran, he entered the United States Army in 1944 and served in Europe and Japan being discharged in May of 1946 with the title of Combat Engineer. He came to Galion in 1946 and worked at McElroy's Furniture Store where he was trained to install floor coverings. He later worked in various other stores in the area including Nicholl's, Logan's, Sherwin-Williams, Artcraft and others. A member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ he also belonged to American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 and Polk Township AMVETS Post 1979 in Galion.
Jim liked to shop and hunt for bargains! He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and would dress up and play Santa for them for years. Easy going and friendly, Jim never met a stranger, was great with people and always went with the flow.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Bill Sand of Galion; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patsy Music of Fredericktown; five grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Downing and Rodney (Kim) Sand of Galion, Andrea (Jeff) Sellers of Butler, Cortney Springer of Bellville and Brad (Lyn) Kiger of Columbus; and 10 great-grandchildren, Amber and Jessica Downing and Ryan and Colton Sand, Tyler and Trey Sellers, Macy and Ava Springer and Alison and Ashley Kiger.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Shambaugh and Beth Gillig; and two brothers, Paul Music and Delbert Music.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 3, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4 with Don Linn, Minister officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Galion. Military graveside services will be held by the United States Army and Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
