MANSFIELD: Charles Edward Scruggs, Sr., 80, of 828 King St., passed this life Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Mansfield Memorial Homes after an extended illness.
Mr. Scruggs was born on Monday, November 21, 1932 to the late Murray Scruggs and Sadie Hamilton Scruggs Cole in Hunstsville, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield the past 62 years. Charles retired from General Motors CPC Plant after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Oasis Of Love Church, American Legion Post 679, and the United Auto Workers, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Charles is survived by his daughter: Charlestine Scruggs, Columbus, 3 sons: Edward Scruggs, Columbus, Charles (Melissa) Scruggs, Jr. and Ricky Scruggs, Mansfield; 3 step children Phyllis and Randy Bragg, and Jackie (Curtis) Caldwell, Mansfield; the Tolliver children; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.
In addition to his parents his 1st wife Harlena, 2nd wife Frances Tolliver-Scruggs, and 3 siblings Lillian Boone, Mary Holt, and William Scruggs preceded Charles in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 AM in the Oasis of Love Church by his pastor Dr. Walter E. Jordan, II. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

The family will also receive friends at the home, Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
