MANSFIELD: Sam Goble, 87, of Mansfield passed away Saturday evening, June 15, 2013 in Mansfield MedCentral Hospital following a sudden illness.
Sam was born June 7, 1926, the son of George and Lottie (Spears) Goble.
An Army veteran, Sam served in Germany with the occupational forces following WWII. While in Germany Sam met Charlotte Deger and on September 28, 1948 the two were married.
Sam worked at the Fisher Body GM Plant in Ontario as a press operator and crane operators assistant. He retired from GM in 1988 after 31 years of service. He remained close to his co-workers as a member of the GM retirees.
Sam was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Ontario.
Sam enjoyed country music and cars, especially from the 1920's, but his passion was gardening, or "playing in the dirt." Every summer he planted an enormous vegetable garden, with far too many green beans to eat. He also liked flowers and tending to his landscaping.
He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte Goble of Mansfield, with whom celebrated over 64 years of marriage; three sons Elmar (Virginia "Ginny") Goble of Cincinnati, Larry Goble of Mansfield and Terry (Tobi) Goble of Delaware; grandchildren Laurie (Chris) Pitch, Kristin (Ed) Hunter, Ryan Goble, Justin (Kristen) Goble Schamerloh, Heather Goble, Collin, Bridget, and Cooper Goble, great grandchildren Alex, Carissa, Braden and Elizabeth Pitch, Evan Hunter, Levi Lindsay, and Kaleb Schamerloh; sisters Ruth Branham and Tommy Shepherd, and a brother Jesse Goble all of Dwale, Kentucky.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 5-8 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 am. Burial with military honors performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
