Mildred I. Sunyoger

MANSFIELD: Mildred I. Sunyoger, 88, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Oak Grove Manor. Born August 4, 1924 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Earl and Verona (Wittmer) Tooker. Mildred graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1942 and became employed by W.T. Grant Company in Mansfield.

In 1950, she transferred to their sister store in Steubenville, Ohio to assist in setting up the accounting department. While in Steubenville, she met Stephen Sunyoger and they married March 22, 1952. They returned to Mansfield in 1953 and remained life-long residents. In 1955, Mildred began her 37-year career in the Sales Department at Stone Container Corporation, retiring in 1992.

She was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, serving on Church Council, Altar Guild, Sunday school teacher, and church secretary. In her free time, Mildred enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling, spending time with her family and hosting the annual New Year's Day Family Cabbage Roll Feast!

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Wise of Columbus and Elaine Bishop of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Stephen Wise of Weirton, WV, Georgia Pick of Columbus, Melinda Bishop of Shawnee, KS, Laura Bishop of Overland Park, KS; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Gabrielle and Parker Wise, all of Toronto, OH, Kendall Bishop of Shawnee, KS, Owen and Isaac Pick, both of Columbus; nieces and nephews, Bill (Kay) Sunyoger of Wintersville, Carolyn (Dean) Cook of Mentor, Richard (Dr. MaryAnn) Sunyoger of Steubenville, Bob Sunyoger of Chicago, IL, Nancy (Ron) Young of Shawnee, OK, Alan and Earl Gallaway, both of Mansfield, Barbara (Glenn) Davis of Lucas, Michael (Joan) Smith of Mansfield, Janet (David) Nason of Pickerington; and great nieces and nephews and many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Sunyoger; sister, Isabel Gallaway, Lucille Smollen and Joann Smith; and son-in-law, David Bishop.

The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Grove Manor for the excellent care provided to Mildred.

Friends may visit from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services conducted by Dr. David Aune will be held Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 W. Main St., Lucas, OH 44843.
