Harold E. Simmons

MANSFIELD: Harold E. Simmons, 95, of Mansfield, OH went to be with the Lord after a long, healthy life on November 16, 2013. Born on August 28, 1918 in Mansfield, he was the son of Arley Leroy and Margaret (Buzzard) Simmons. Harold graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1936 and went on to Mansfield Business College. He also earned an accounting certificate. Harold was a proud Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII, serving in North Africa and Italy. He met his wife, Pat, at the Coliseum roller skating rink prior to leaving for the war, and they were married in December 1945. Harold was an avid roller skater with his wife, even competing in state dance competitions. Harold worked for Richland Shale Brick, most prominently as a purchasing agent, where he retired after 37 years of service. He obtained his real estate license and went to work for Cloverleaf Realty. Harold bowled in a league for over 40 years and also ushered at the Renaissance Theatre. He was a member of the Elks, and a life long active member of First English Lutheran Church, serving on numerous committees.

Surviving are daughter, Patricia Smith of Mansfield; sons, Bill Simmons of Westchester, IL and Gary Simmons (Roberta Chesnut) of Mansfield; grandchildren, Natalie Simmons of Bedford Heights and Dan Simmons of Mansfield; special friends, Lisa Simmons and Joyce Wagner; and numerous cousins.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred "Pat" Simmons; parents; and an infant sister.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-8pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Rd., Mansfield, OH 44906. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Paul Larson and Rev. Andrew Jones, will be held at 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at First English Lutheran Church, 53 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, OH. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church.
