Fred J. Berryhill

MANSFIELD: Fred J. Berryhill, 88, formerly of Mansfield, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, following a sudden illness.

Fred was born on June 18, 1926, in Pontitoc, MS, to Charlie L. and Mary Holly Berryhill. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, not just once, but re-enlisting in the 1950's, due to his willingness to serve. Fred was an active member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, where he served in many capacities. His favorite pastime was driving the church bus on Sunday mornings. He was also involved with the Temple Toppers at church. Fred's family was very important to him, and he loved to go watch his grandchildren with their sports activities. He married his sweetheart, Doris, on April 17, 1954, and she preceded him in death on October 3, 2010.

He is survived by four children, Gail (Bob) Rowland of MS, Anita (Bill) Weigler of Bellville, Doug (Kim) Berryhill of Olive Hill, KY, and Lonnie (Janie) Berryhill of Coldwater, MS; six grandchildren, Bob (Gwyn) Rowland, Jr., Michael Rowland, Steve (Courtney) Crider, Daniel (Jen) Crider, Amanda (Shannon) Holbrook, and Ashley Berryhill; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Joe Berryhill of Utah.

Along with his wife, Doris, Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Ernest Berryhill, Virgil Berryhill, and Coy Berryhill.

Calling hours will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East (St. Rt. 430E), Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014, at the funeral home, with Pastor Al Humble officiating.
