John Michael Powers John Powers, a life long bay area native, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2015, with his devoted son and daughter-in-law, by his side. John was born 1/12/1940 in Alameda, CA. In his early years, he worked in the music industry and had many cool stories to share. For a living, he was a commercial truck driver and later started his own boat hauling business. His true passion was art, at which he had an extraordinary talent. John was married twice; his first wife Georgia Powers, with whom they had a son, Shannon Powers; and his second wife Sandra Powers, to whom he was married for 30 years. He was clean and sober for 30+ years. The Program led him to the world of the Native spiritual world, which enlightened his life. He was an activist and participated in many protests. He was an advocate for clean natural habitat for salmon spawns. John lived with his son and granddaughter, in Fairfax, CA for the last several years. He suffered a major stroke in October, 2014 and then lived in a wonderful, caring rehabilitative facility - Rafael Convalescent. He is survived by his son, Shannon Powers (Kate), daughter, April Sutherland (Peter), and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 30th, 2015 at Samuel P. Taylor Park at 1:00 p.m. - Site: CIRV, Irving Group Picnic area. All are welcome.
