Aurora Nelson

Aurora Nelson Age 83, of Greenbrae, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2013 at WindChime of Marin. Born in San Francisco to Spanish and Basque parents, Maria Aurora Sanchez attended local schools and married William M. Nelson Jr. in 1950. In 1958, the Nelson family moved to Marin, first settling in Novato, then Tiburon, where Bill became a successful real estate broker. Aurora worked at Shorebirds gift shop in Belvedere for almost twenty years, and upon retiring in 1992, devoted her free time to volunteer work at Kaiser Hospital, the Marin Public Library, and the St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen. She enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, and listening to music. Survivors include her sister Anita Doll (and husband Jim) of Oro Valley AZ, her children, Mark (and wife Karen) of San Anselmo; Anita of Sacramento; Bill of New York City; Michael Winters of Rohnert Park, and her granddaughter Paige Oldham, currently at UCLA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin County. There will be a memorial on September 28th at noon.
