Betty Flora Born Mary Elizabeth McKinley on March 31, 1917 in Chicago, Betty Flora died on January 19, 2013 in Sonoma at the Memory Care Center of Vintage Sonoma. Betty met her husband Lewis Flora (married 50 years) at the Aragon ballroom in Chicago when she was 19 years old and eloped a year later. They moved to Detroit and raised six children: William in Mill Valley (married to Susan with two sons, Brian - great-grand- children Nathan and Ben -and Dan), Daniel in Lucas Valley (married to Jeannette with two children, Alex and Kim), Ellen in Napa, Mary Ann (married to Skip) in North Carolina, Teresa (married to Nick) and Beth also in North Carolina. After Detroit, Betty and Lew moved to an historic house in Lexington, Michigan overlooking Lake Huron and then later to Santa Rosa, California. Lew died in 1987. Betty moved to Rotary Village in Lucas Valley where she made many dear and close friends. Betty was an exceptionally kind and generous human being who helped everyone she met. She was the best example of her generation: hard-working, sensitive but strong, and would bend over backwards to help those in need. Betty also made the best berry and pumpkin pies along with a holiday corn pudding that couldn't be duplicated. She will be greatly missed and her memory lives on in the minds and hearts of her family and friends. Donations in memory of Betty can be made to the Caregivers Xmas fund at Vintage Sonoma, 91 Napa Rd., Sonoma, CA 95476.
