Dorothy L. Israel

Dorothy L. Israel Was born in Glasgow Scotland March 17 1921 and passed peacefully at her home in San Rafael February 17th 2013. She is survived by her son Marc Israel and granddaughter Alexandra Scott Israel both of San Francisco. In addition she leaves numerous nieces, nephews and friends she loved and appreciated dearly. As a girl, Dorothy and her family moved to New York from Glasgow and settled in Brooklyn. She attended both Brooklyn High school and Brooklyn College and received a B.A. in education. She moved to the Bay Area in the early 50s and met her husband Royce Israel finally settling in Marin. Dorothy was a dedicated educator and taught third grade at Brookside school for nearly thirty years. She was a California Teachers Association chapter president and a member of the National Education Association. She also taught hebrew school at Temple Rodof Shalom in San Rafael. After retiring, she continued to work for the school district creating testing materials. Dorothy enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She loved to travel internationally on a regular basis with Royce, the love of her life. She will be missed by all. A Memorial service will be held at the Club House at Smith Ranch Homes from 1:30 - 3:30 March 1st, 2013.
