Ellen Ann Klenz Heden

Ellen Ann Klenz Heden Born at home in Mill Valley, CA, on August 5, 1927; died at home in San Rafael, CA, on June 10, 2013, aged 85 years, after a lengthy illness. Ellen was the youngest child of five born to Gerda Marie Klenz (Kluver) and Axel Knud Klenz, Danish immigrants. The family moved to Ross and then to San Francisco where Ellen graduated from Galileo High School. While a student there, she obtained a practical education in the workplace with numerous part-time jobs. This preparation enabled her to advance quickly with the IRS, her first full time employment. In the 1946 tax filing period she supervised a temporary processing team consisting of returning WWII veterans, one of which was Eric Lawrence Heden. She married him in Mill Valley in 1947; he later became a practicing San Francisco CPA. After several years' residence in the city, they moved back to Marin where they welcomed first a son and then a daughter. Home and family formed the center of Ellen's life, but she also enjoyed dancing, music-she had a lovely voice-and travel. Many family stories arise from the adventures she and Eric shared in myriad corners of the earth. She was loving, gentle, witty, wise, and very brave and independent, but quietly so. She is survived by her spouse of 66 years, Eric Heden of San Rafael; children Chris Heden of Petaluma and Andrea Triolo (Richard) of San Rafael; grandchildren Miranda Bane, Eric Bane, Alicia Heden O'Rourke (Ryan), Corrie Heden, Kirsten Heden, Michael Triolo, and Dominic Triolo; great-grandchildren Jacob and Owen O'Rourke; sister Peggy Klenz of Greenbrae; and numerous nieces and nephews and their descendants. A private memorial is planned.
