Jean I. Ecker(1922 - 2014)

Jean I. Ecker Jan. 26, 1922 - Mar. 24, 2014 Born in Minneapolis, Jean Irwin moved to the Panama Canal Zone when she was two years old, where her father worked as an engineer on the Panama Canal. She travelled to California to complete her education at Stanford University before returning home to work for Naval Intelligence at Fort Amador, in the Panama Canal Zone. There she met Army Lieutenant William H. (Bill) Ecker. They were married on June 26, 1945. They moved to Indiana long enough for Bill to finish his education at Indiana University, then relocated to San Francisco. They settled in Marin County in 1949, where Jean and Bill raised their three children. Jean was active in PTA, AAUW, Meadow Club, golf, various bridge clubs and gourmet societies and more. She and Bill enjoyed travelling the world with Rotary. They were married for 68 years before Bill's death in January. Jean is survived by her brother, Robert Irwin, daughters Carol (Bob) Morse, Beverly (Eric) Greene, and son Ken (Melinda) Ecker, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Villa Marin, 100 Thorndale Drive, San Rafael.
