John Joseph Coleman(1927 - 2014)

John Joseph Coleman This feisty Irishman passed away peacefully at home with his family around him on June 1, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Martha, sister, Mary Lou Ericson, 3 daughters, Christine Anderson, Colleen (Paul) Burdett and Teresa Coleman, and son, Brian (Darcy) Coleman, along with 8 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Born December 19, 1927 in San Francisco to John and Bridget Coleman attended St. Pauls Catholic School and graduated from Saint Anselms High School where he met his bride of 65 years, Martha Zanoni. From 1944-1949 John served as a seaman with the United States Coast Guard, an Army paratrooper and athletic instructor in the 11th Airborne Division, and a reserve in the Marine Corp earning the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. A US Postal Worker for 30 years, coach of CYO basketball and Little League baseball and a remarkable athlete playing basketball and softball into his 60's. Funeral Mass Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincents Catholic Church, 1 St. Vincent Drive, San Rafael, CA. In lieu of flowers a donation to St. Vincent School for the Boys or the Steve Kostecki Memorial Scholarship may be made in his memory.
