Joseph Robert "Bob" Ghiringhelli

Joseph Robert "Bob" Ghiringhelli Joseph Robert "Bob" Ghiringhelli passed away June 9, 2013 at the age of 83, surrounded by his family. Born at Cottage Hospital in San Rafael on March 24, 1930, Bob was the second-born child of Italian immigrant Joseph Ghiringhelli and Italian-American Antoinette (Pagani) Ghiringhelli. In 1937 Bob moved to Fairfax when his parents purchased Deer Park Villa, a four acre property complete with restaurant, housing and space for his father's vegetable garden. Bob was especially proud of the grove of redwood trees his father planted in the late 1930s. While a senior at St. Anselm's High School, Bob met the "love of his life" Jean Claire McLaughlin. The high school sweethearts married in 1950 and started "Lord Fairfax Catering". They bought a small home in San Anselmo and started a family, moving back to Fairfax as their family grew to a total of four daughters and two sons. Bob worked alongside his brother, Harry Ghiringhelli, and sister, Dolores Forni, for over fifty years, bringing his catering company to Deer Park Villa in the 1960s. Bob's youngest brother, Jon Ghiringhelli, was in the real estate business. Bob was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. While he hunted in his younger years, he grew to enjoy just watching wildlife as he hiked around the lakes in Fairfax. He cared for his wife Jean during her long illness and missed her dearly after she passed away in 2004. In addition to his sister Dolores and brothers Harry and Jon, Bob is survived by his six children: Mary Jean Bruce (John) of Napa, Patricia Saunders (John Shea) of Napa, Debra Ghiringhelli (Donald Walker) of Fairfax, Michael Ghiringhelli (Olimpia) of Novato, Robert Ghiringhelli (Leslie) of Fairfax, and Annie Stewart (Wayne) of Sonoma. Bob is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, June 17 at 11:00 am at St. Rita's Church in Fairfax and all friends and relatives are welcome. A reception will follow at Deer Park Villa.
