Louis W. Segale, Sr. (Also known as "Babe" and "Popo") Louis W. Segale, Sr., 91 years old, died September 2, 2013, on his former wife Mary's birthday. Louis was born at his family's home on Greenwich Street in San Francisco on February 13, 1922. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended USF. He was then called to war and later received his honorary degree from USF in 1993. Louis worked in the hardware industry all of his adult life. He was the owner of Segale & Demartini Hardware on Columbus Ave. in San Francisco and worked at Mariani Hardware, which is where he met Lois Mariani Mongan, his "Lady Friend" for the next 49 years. He eventually retired from the Hager Hinge Company. Louis was extremely proud of his service in the Army in WWII in both the Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of Buchenwald, and in the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation which was awarded for efforts of extraordinary heroism against an armed enemy and accomplishing missions under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions. Louis was married to Mary Whitehead Segale Medlin from 1943 to 1961. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rose Segale, his brother William Segale, sisters Bernice Holland (Timothy) and Lorraine Segale; his former wife, Mary and his "Lady Friend" Lois Mariani Mongan. He is survived by his children, Louis W. Segale, Jr. and Nancy Segale, his granddaughter Morgan Rose Baugh and nephew, Dennis (Diane) Holland and children Timothy and Katherine of Marietta, GA. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 20, 2013 from 4-6pm at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 E Street, San Rafael, CA.
