Monique Laurent Sundberg

Monique Laurent Sundberg Died peacefully in her home on August 16, 2013 marking the end of a nine-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Born and raised in Lerouville, France, Monique worked as a secretary for the US Army where she met her beloved husband Robert Elmer Sundberg. Married in 1956 in France, they then moved to the US and settled in San Rafael, CA to raise their family in 1962. For more than 30 years, Monique actively contributed to Saint Raphael's Parish by educating youth in CCD, coordinating hospitality after Mass, and helping children prepare for First Holy Communion. She was known for her devout faith and deep love of family. Humility, patience and generosity were the cornerstones of her character. She will be remembered for her sweet disposition and joyful French nature. Monique is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jeannine and Bernard Garnier, sister-in-law Ann Purcell, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tammy Sundberg, grandchildren, Kaylie and Bret Sundberg, daughter, Anne Sundberg Diaz, and grandchildren Luke, Adam, and Lisa Diaz. The Vigil will be held Thursday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Raphael's Church, San Rafael, CA. The memorial Mass will also be held at Saint Raphael's Church on Friday, August 23 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorial donations to be made toward Saint Raphael's Church or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
