Nancy Elaine Altman Born December 4, 1932 and went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, March 26, 2010. Nancy was a Marin County native whose great grandfather was one of the early pioneers of Petaluma. Her family name was Nauert and many relatives still reside in Marin and Sonoma counties. She passed away peacefully at her home in Novato with Richard, her loving husband of 58 years, and their two sons Bruce and Steven at her side. After growing up in Marin and attending San Rafael High School, she met her husband who was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base at the time. They married July 1, 1951 in San Rafael. In 1952 they moved to Southern California. Over the course of years they lived at various locations in Southern California and Marin County, retuning to Marin in 1971. Nancy worked briefly for the Department of the Air Force at Hamilton and was secretary to the Director of Christian Education at the First Methodist Church in Glendale, CA. She began her career as pre-school teacher in 1967 and continued until her retirement in 1989.She touched many young children's lives and enjoyed singing songs and reading stories to them. She enjoyed the outdoors and frequently spent time with her family out in West Marin where her father had lived in his later years. Flowers and gardening gave her much pleasure, plus watching various birds and animals in her backyard. Nancy treasured fond memories as a child of vacations in Yosemite where she learned to swim in the Merced River. Nancy was a loving wife and although she struggled throughout most of her life with various illnesses, was always gracious. She enjoyed listening to others, was a trustworthy friend, and a very caring person. Nancy is survived by her husband Richard and sons Bruce of North Wales, Great Britain and Steven of Elk Grove, CA, their wives, and six grandchildren.
