Otto James Jacobsen

1908 - 2016

Otto James Jacobsen Passed away March 21, 2016 at the age of 107 at his home at Smith Ranch where he lived for 15 years. We will miss his daily call "I'm still alive." As he was so proud of his age and hoping to make it to 108! Otto was born April 30, 1908 in Omaha, Nebraska to Mary and John who came to the US from Demark. In 1930, Otto graduated from the University of Nebraska with honors at the age of 21. His first job was at Ocoma Food as office manager, then in 1947 moved to California to run the office of Western Dairy, where he then became CFO. In 1955, he met and married Virginia Flanagan, a widow with a young son, Jim, and moved from San Francisco to San Rafael. Otto was a member of the Meadow Club for 60 years. He retired at age 62 to enjoy golf, traveling, dominos and bridge, which he played until he was 103. Otto is survived by his stepson, Jim Flanagan (Pam) of Novato; sister Edna Wills (age 104) of Indiana; grandsons, James Flanagan of Auburn and Conor Flanagan of San Rafael; a niece Nancy McMillan of Indiana; a nephew, John Wills of Colorado; a niece, Mary Chrisman of Colorado; and many wonderful friends at Smith Ranch. We will miss you Otto and your "Flashy" bow ties, your wisdom and determination. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregivers for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Heartland Hospice Care, 1050 Northgate Dr., #400, San Rafael, CA 94903, whom gave outstanding care and support.
