Richard (Dick) Alves Passed away on March 18, 2011 under the care of Hospice. He was 87 years old. He was born in San Francisco and raised in Salinas. He was his high school valedictorian and graduated with special scholastic honors and was also active in Community Theater. Dick served as a Deck Officer in the Merchant Marines during World War II in the Pacific, Atlantic and mid-East Theaters of war and was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. Dick and his family moved to San Rafael in 1965. He retired in 1981 as an Executive of Pacific Gas & Electric Company after 36 years of employment. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Redwood Region Conservation Council. He enjoyed music and travel, having visited Hawaii and Europe several times and also cruised to various foreign ports. His wife Ladine and their son Bruce prececeased him in death. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Linda Alves of San Rafael, two granddaughters; Jennifer Hampton (Dennis) of Santa Rosa and Julie Reid of Roseville and one great-grandson, Jacob Reid and also by his beloved companion, Shirley Sinclair.
