Robert Louis O'Neil

Robert Louis O'Neil 1936 2013 Aged 76, passed away March 11 at his home in Larkspur, CA surrounded by his family. Born in Providence, RI to John and Ruth (Hohler) O'Neil, he was the eldest of his siblings, Janice (Dana O'Neil), Judy (James Doyle), Merry (Raymond Rugg) and John O'Neil Jr., who predeceased him. He attended St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. Settling in San Francisco, and later in Marin Co., he married Carole (Ashmore) O'Neil and raised three children, Shannon (Jeff Jamieson), Ryan (Christine Alden), and Jamie O'Neil. Four beloved grandchildren brightened his later years: Connor Thomas and Will Bellows Jamieson, Charley Grace and Caelan Piper O'Neil, along with many nieces and nephews. Rob was the proud founder and owner of O'Neil KG Bags in San Francisco that later moved to San Rafael where he was proud to welcome his sons as business partners. He was a true Irish boy at heart, loved summers on Bonnet Shores, rooted for the Boston Red Sox and Celtics, and routinely chose to play hockey and baseball over homework. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play baseball and the camaraderie of the Sausalito Yacht Club. A longtime resident of Corte Madera, he devoted many years to the Twin Cities Little League and Redwood High School. He taught the values of good sportsmanship, never quitting and of looking someone right in the eye with a firm handshake. A kind and charming man, with a quick wit, he will be remembered giving sage advice (delivered in a way that only he could) and for his ability to make strangers and friends feel important. A funeral mass and celebration of his life will be held at St. Vincent's Chapel in San Rafael on Monday, March 18 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice in San Rafael.
