Mary Roffelsen Obituary

Mary Ann Roskos Roffelsen 1945- 2016 Mary Ann Roffelsen, age 71 years, of Mill Valley, CA, passed away peacefully in her husband Harry's loving arms after a brief illness on December 12, 2016. Ann was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Myrtle Irene (Martin) and Andrew Thomas Roskos, M.D. Ann moved with her parents and older brother Drew to San Diego, California in 1946 and lived in family homes in Mission Hills and later Alvarado Estates. She attended Montezuma and Hardy Elementary Schools, Horace Mann Junior High School and Will C. Crawford Senior High School. Ann was a vivacious and spirited high school student involved in many activities including being elected Senior Class President in 1963. Both her parents were prominent health care professionals in San Diego for many years and inspired Ann to pursue nursing as a first career. Ann completed a Registered Nursing degree at Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing in Oakland, California in 1967. Ann practiced her nursing craft for many years in the operating rooms on both the East and West coasts at San Francisco General, UCSF and George Washington University Hospitals. In later years, while in San Francisco, she was a private RN working with Dr. Elias Hanna's open heart team. Following 25 years as a registered nurse, Ann went on to pursue both a Bachelor's degree (1995) and an MBA (1997) at San Francisco State University. She pursued her love of medicine and business at a Bay Area medical device company traveling throughout the world in her position as a technical/business support for life-altering spinal disk repair technologies. In addition to nursing and business, Ann was a gourmet chef, a skilled sailor, an expert seamstress, knitter and lace maker she pursued all these hobbies with great verve! Ann will be remembered for her sharp wit and dry sense of humor. Ann was a skilled conversationalist and hostess. Ann is preceded in death by her older brother Drew Roskos (1966) and parents Andrew (1995) and Myrtle (2007). Ann is survived by her husband Harry Roffelsen, her sisters Susie (Bob) Mardon; Carol Roskos, Kathy (Scott) Roskos Selover and Andrea (Rich) Scheve, her nephew Patrick Selover and nieces Lauren Selover and Drew Scheve. She is also survived by her step daughters Sarah (Robert) Roffelsen Horky, Catherine Roffelsen, and her step grandson Christoph Horky. Ann's memorial will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Monte's Chapel of the Hills, 330 Red Hill Ave, San Anselmo, CA 94960. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ann's name be made to the donor's favorite charity. To contact the family please email [email protected]. Ann's ashes will be scattered in her beloved Kauai sometime in the near future. Special Thanks to the physicians and staff at Marin General Hospital for providing comfort to Ann in her final hours. We will always carry Ann's memory in our hearts, just as she did of her brother, father and mother. May they have a wonderful reunion together!
