GRACE ADAMOWICZ Obituary

Grace Adamowicz "The world may be different because I was important in the life of a child." These are the words that were important to Grace Adamowicz who passed away on September 30, 2010. These words embody the true meaning of her life that of a devoted wife, a loving mother, a wonderful grandmother, a delightful great-grandmother and a special aunt. By today's standards some might say her life as a homemaker was somewhat ordinary. But to those friends and family that knew her, the life she shared with them was beyond ordinary. It was, in fact, extraordinary. Grace was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on September 24, 1921. She graduated with a BA from the University of Wisconsin on June 1, 1942. Shortly thereafter she married the love of her life, Matt Adamowicz, on June 20, 1942. Through two wars, six moves to four different states, the birth of five children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, she always managed to maintain a sense of calm in what was certainly an extremely active life. Grace made the relationships with her family and friends her top priority throughout her life and the devotion shown to her in the waning years of her life due to Alzheimer's is a testament to the love and respect that Grace bestowed upon others. This world is a better place because she touched it in so many ways. Throughout the years she entertained so many with her piano playing. She was actively involved with Catholic charities, Girl Scouts, the Rebekah Lodge, friends at bridge club, contributions to "Great Decisions", involvement with the AAUW, gardening, and of course her talents with card playing. She was also a world traveler with adventures in Ireland, Scotland, England, Australia, China, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, France, Canada, and Mexico as well as extensive travels in the U.S. including Hawaii and visits to Elder Hostels. To the end of her life she was a gracious, loving, joyful individual whose every day was filled with gratitude for all that life had to offer. In the words of one who knew her well "she was aptly named" and she will be truly missed. Grace is the beloved mother of Carole Chase and her husband Michael of San Anselmo; Jerry Adamowicz of Santa Rosa; Gwen Oliver and her husband Tom Duff of Davis; Sharon Roberts and her husband Eugene of Arvada, CO; and Gayle Bray and her husband Roger of Napa. Grace is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, 1900 Franklin Avenue, Santa Rosa. If desired, donations in her memory may be made to the Santa Rosa chapter of the AAUW. Arrangements are under the care of Daniels Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home.

I went to grade school with her daughter, Sharon. She called Sharon, Suzanne and me the ABC's because of our last names. Anytime I visited her home, she was kind and made me feel safe. She was a nice mom.
