Basilio Nathan Garza Jr. Obituary
Video Memory
Basilio Nathan Garza Jr. January 15, 1993 - July 12, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic death of Nathan Garza, Jr., Age 21 of Novato, California. Nathan passed away unexpectedly from an accident that occurred on July 12, 2014 after an evening spent with his girlfriend Sarah and close friends. He was born on January 15, 1993 in Bakersfield, California to his mother Renee Garza (Wood) of Novato and father Basilio Garza. Nathan graduated from San Marin High School in 2011 and attended Sonoma State. Nathan had a quiet confidence; a bright smile, a boy scout at heart, a passion for sports, a love for animals and the desire to be just like his Grandpa (Stan). Nathan grew up in Novato where he played multiple sports following in the footsteps of his two older cousins (Michael Crane and Allan Roan of Novato), which included soccer, baseball, football, wrestling and lacrosse. Nathan went to San Marin High School where he earned his Varsity Letterman playing football, lacrosse, and wrestling. Nathan had many wonderful coaches throughout his sports career and developed close friendships with many of his former teammates that continued up until his passing. Nathan was a hard worker and at a young age Nathan's first job was a paperboy for the Novato Advance (with help from Grandpa Stan). Nathan was very involved in The Boy Scouts of America, Troop 42. Through hard work and dedication, in 2009, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. The leadership and life lessons he learned helped him to become the wonderful young man we all knew and loved. Nathan enjoyed working at Whole Foods, Novato and Santa Rosa where he was just named Team Leader of the Month. Nathan is preceded in death by his father, Basilio Garza, his grandmothers, Eloise Wood and Teofila Garza and his grandfather, Basilio Garza Sr. He is survived by his mother, Renee Garza of Novato; his sister, Melissa Garza-Reyna of Delano; grandfather, Harold Stanley Wood of Novato; niece and nephew, Megan and Nicholas Reyna of Delano. Nathan has a large extended family who he enjoyed spending time with. Nathan's girlfriend, Sarah Spina and her family will deeply miss him, as well as his countless friends. In support of Nathan's love for animals and sports the family has asked that any donations be made to either the Marin Humane Society, where he adopted his dog, Coco, or to the San Marin All Sports Boosters where Nathan was able to play all the sports he loved in High School with the help of this scholarship program. The Marin Humane Society: www.marinhumanesociety.org or San Marin All Sports Boosters: 15 San Marin Drive, Novato, CA 94945. Visitations will be held at Keaton Redwood Chapel in Novato on: Wednesday July 23, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday July 24, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Novato Saturday July 26, 2014 beginning at 12:00 PM.
