CATHY NEUSCHATZ Obituary

Cathy Anne Morphy Neuschatz Passed away August 26, 2011, in her home in San Rafael after 5 years of living with and surviving cancer, surrounded by family and friends. She was 67. Cathy had an inimitable zest for life. To spend time with Cathy was to gain new appreciation for whatever was in front of you: everything was funnier, brighter, more delicious, more interesting, and more fun when shared with her. Cathy and her late husband Perry Neuschatz, had a marriage that was, simply, a love story. Cathy leaves behind her beloved daughter Joanna Neuschatz, and stepsons Matthew (Jo) and Andy (Sharon), and grandchildren Ashley, Alex, Abby and Zoe, and a large extended family. In addition to her husband, Cathy is predeceased by her parents, Edward and Dorothy Morphy and sister, Sharon Morphy. Inspiring and devoted wife, mother, teacher, daughter and friend to all who met her, Cathy will be greatly missed. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday September 1. What a nice thing to do for Cathy. I read what I wrote in 2011 and would say the same things now. I too became a high school teacher and would have loved to have shared a faculty room with her. We would have had many, many laughs. Cathy had a wonderful sense of humor and was kind. Those were her gifts. When I think of people like Cathy it makes me realize that she must have had wonderful parents with wonderful genes -- her kind of sense of humor is a gift a person is born with -- never learned.

Ms Morphy, as we used to call her, was the best. We were her first class at St. Rose (1968/69). Ms Morphy was our Sr Class moderator and we still talk about her and how much she was liked. May you rest now.

Beginning with playing in and with the G Street Circle gang, I've known Cathy since we were in 2nd-3rd grades. We used to go to the little bridge on Forbes (between Quarry and Culloden) and get behind the barrier, wait for cars to come and push the bamboo plants down in front of the cars, while singing "Cross Over the Bridge" (a song from the 50s--kids--don't try this at home--what were we thinking?)...we also used to sit on top of the pillars at Forbes and Fairhills and sing the top 10 songs of the week...more recently, we enjoyed spirited political conversations (we were on the same page there)...and of course, for the last several years, we'd take walks downtown, sometimes getting a bite to eat, with my husband, Randy, and our other dear friend Candy. We have already missed Cathy not being able to participate in the longer walks, but we'd still stop and visit along the way. I've never known anyone with such spirit as Cathy. Cathy, We love you and miss you.

Each of us must have a memory from high school of a funny, considerate and gracious thing Cathy said or did. She had the rare gift of seeing mirth in the world around her. How providential for those with whom she shared her life. Patricia Suacci Warnock San Rafael CA

Cathy was a true gem, a pearl of great price who enlivened my life and that of my siblings since we were kids and she the babysitter. Her laugh was infectious and her heart pure gold. She honestly felt like one of our family and I remember as a boy hoping my parents would go out so Cathy could watch over us. We had nothing but fun and laughter. I know I speak for my siblings as well - we loved you, Cathy, and always will. You were a true blessing to all of us and you are greatly missed, but never, ever forgotten.
