DEAN EDWIN LINDSAY

Dean Edwin Lindsay Age 82, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 30th, 2010 in Sonoma, CA after a long illness. Dean was born on February 29th, 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was the oldest of three children of John Edwin and Stella Lindsay. As a young man Dean was a member of the world renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir, spawning a lifelong interest in music, theater and the performing arts. He attended the University of Utah and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduating, Dean joined the U.S. Air Force and trained to become a pilot. He was promoted to flight instructor during the Korean War and achieved the rank of captain. At the conclusion of his military career, Dean took a sales position with Owen Corning Fiberglass, launching a successful career in the building materials industry that would span almost forty years. Dean met the love of his life, Mary Bell, in San Francisco and they married in 1957. Together they raised four sons as Dean's sales and marketing jobs took the family from Saratoga, CA to Toledo, OH in 1967 with Owens Corning and onto Cleveland, OH in 1977 with Donn Corp. After retirement, Dean and Mary returned back to the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to being a respected executive, Dean was also an avid woodworker, home improvement enthusiast, tennis player, sailor and world traveler. He was extremely devoted to his wife Mary and in later years, their seven grandchildren. Family and friends were the center of their life and they made deep and lasting relationships wherever they lived. Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary. He is survived by his sons John (Allison) of Sammamish, WA, Kent (Valerie) of Mill Valley, CA, Todd (Johanna) of Fremont, CA, and Stephen (Mary D.) of Petaluma, CA; sister Carole Mackey of Houston, TX; and grandchildren Andrea, Erin, Katie, Michael, Megan, Simon and Nora. We will miss his sage advice, warm smile, hearty laugh and wry sense of humor. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
