Doris A. Hermsmeyer Jan. 13, 1918 - Aug. 25, 2013 Born and raised in Scotia, Nebraska, Doris grew up with her parents and sister, Valera. In 1937 Doris became the loving wife of George A. Hermsmeyer, also of Scotia. The two moved to San Francisco where George worked in an auto repair shop and Doris studied and became a beautician at the Emporium. With the birth of her eldest son she became a full time homemaker and in 1951 after the birth of three more sons, the family moved to San Anselmo. It was there that Doris blossomed into a fabulous cook, known for her family gatherings, and an avid gardener, with a "green thumb". She loved hiking the hills of Sleepy Hollow with her dogs, Square dancing with her beloved George, and attending plays in San Francisco. When George purchased Bay Bridge Garage in San Francisco, Doris took on the bookkeeping for the company. After a fire destroyed their Sleepy Hollow home in 2005, Doris and George moved to Petaluma and Doris continued to devote herself to enriching the lives of her family, and hosting weekly dinners. With her "can do" attitude, she continued doing bookkeeping for the family business which by then was in Petaluma and owned by two of her sons. George preceded Doris in death in 2006. She leaves behind the children who adored her, Roger (Betsy), Robert (Carol), Dennis (Nancy), Danny (Pattie), and her grandchildren Roger Jr., Shelly, Matt, Marc, Brent, Heidi, Tracy, Jeff, Kyle, Kelly, Danny Jr., and Joe. Her cherished grandson Scotty preceded her in passing. She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren. Doris' family would like to acknowledge and thank the outstanding and compassionate care-givers from Sonoma Home Care that supported her and her family during these last few months. Thanks also to Hospice of Petaluma for their care during Doris' last few weeks.
