FLORENCE GATES Obituary

Florence E. (Dougherty) Gates Nov. 13, 1918~Sept. 12, 2010 Florence Gates, 91, was born in Los Angeles, California, where she graduated from University High School in 1936. She resided there for many years before moving to New York, Hawaii, and finally San Rafael, California, where she lived for the past 50 years and will be dearly missed. She was a member of Presbyterian Women and The First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael. Florence married Adna Neil Gates in Santa Monica, 1943. She had many special memories working for Mary Pickford as her personal assistant for nine years. Family and friends will remember her as warm and caring, with a wonderful sense of humor, and keen memory. Florence is survived by her brother, Clint Dougherty Sr., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Charles and Ada Dougherty, her older brother Elton, and niece, Colleen McArthur.
