Harold Victor Mendelsohn Obituary
Harold Victor Mendelsohn Age 96, died at home on March 22, 2012 with loving family at his side. Born in New York City on June 24, 1915, Hal's passing came just seven months after that of his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary ("Mae"). Hal set an example with his strong work ethic, integrity, generosity, love, and passion for life-long learning. A long-time resident of San Rafael and recently of Petaluma, Hal retired in 1982 as Senior Vice President of Equilease Corp., an international equipment leasing company. He joined Equilease in 1961 after 25 years with The National City Bank of New York (which became Citibank). During WWII he was a Battery Officer and Group Adjutant of the 118th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes, reaching the rank of Captain. He attended New York University and graduated from the Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Dartmouth College. A member and dedicated volunteer at St. Isabella's Church and its 50+ club, Hal also had a lifelong commitment to the Boy Scouts whom he served in numerous capacities. He also volunteered for Nazareth House, belonged to the SIRS branch 122, and served on Marin County's Grand Jury. Predeceased by his two sisters, Louise and Claire, Harold is survived by his four children: Robert (Patricia) of Old Greenwich, CT, Richard (Lisa) of Salinas, Kathleen Schmidt (Kenneth) of Petaluma and James of Rohnert Park; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends. His twinkling eyes, great sense of humor, fine intellect and unfailing love are sorely missed. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19, at 2:30 PM at St. Isabella's Church in Terra Linda.
