Hugh G. "Bud" Marchant Obituary
Hugh G. "Bud" Marchant Passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2014. Bud was born in Oakland on May 6, 1922. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. While at Cal he met Jean Nipper from Marin County and proposed on bended knee the day of their first meeting. She said no that day, but agreed later. They married in 1946, and made Kentfield their home for 64 years. After serving in the Army during WWII he worked as an Engineer for the Marin County Planning Commission before becoming a Realtor. He owned Marchant Associates Realtors for over 50 years, served as President of the Marin County Real Estate Board, and later was awarded the Realtor of the Year. He taught Real Estate at the College of Marin for 10 years. He was an active Rotarian with perfect meeting attendance for over sixty years. He was President of the Rotary Club of San Anselmo and later joined the Rotary Clubs of San Rafael, Ross Valley and Mission San Rafael. He was President of the Marin County Chamber of Commerce twice. He served as a member and chairman of the Marin County Assessment Appeals Board for 25 years. He was a longtime member of The Meadow Club and served on the Board of Directors. Since retirement in 1980 Bud and Jean traveled extensively and enjoyed golf, bridge and the Cal Bears. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Nipper Marchant; son, Jon Marchant (Jenny) and daughter, Susan Marchant Angel (Jerry) both of Marin. His six grandchildren are Jordan Angel, Dr. Erin Angel Sisto (Chris), Adrienne Angel Giampaoli (Joe), Brennan Angel, James and Ivan Marchant. In 2013 he became a great-grandfather to Quinn Sisto and Ellie Giampaoli. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in his name to the Rotary Foundation for the Polio Plus Program, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693 or to the Marin Council, Boy Scouts of America, 225 West End Ave., San Rafael, CA 94901.
