Janeanne was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, grew up there, then attended Colorado Women's College and University of New Mexico where she graduated with a degree in Biology in 1948. She worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at an aircraft production plant, during WWII. Janeanne was active in the Marin County political scene, serving as Chairperson of the Democratic Central Committee for six years in the late 1970's early 80's. She was an avid supporter of many charities including the American Himalayan Foundation and the Ama Foundation, many cancer research organizations, and was an enthusiastic supporter of many special projects. She financed the construction of the Mill Valley Girls Softball field in 1997. She enjoyed art and travelled extensively. She served as a docent at San Francisco's DeYoung Art Museum in the 1990's with a specialty in Aztec and Inca art. An intrepid adventurer, her travels included trips to Africa, Asia, India, Europe, and Australia. She visited a total of 77 countries. One adventure included a cruise ship sinking and looting in the South Pacific. She is survived by her four children, Jennifer Doar Schifter, Frederick III, Jeffrey, and Mark Doar, their spouses, ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She lived by the code "This above all, To thine own self be true."
