JEANETTE POPOVICH Obituary

Jeanette Betsy Popovich Jan was born in Seattle, on March 1, 1913, to Katherine and Roger Pinneo and passed away peacefully on September 25, 2010. For almost 98 years, our Mom lived every day in living color. She never wanted to miss a moment of time with family and friends. Just a week before she passed away, Jan attended her grandson's football game to watch him play. She loved time around the dining room table telling tales about her travels and adventures in the 20's, 30's and 40's. Her working career began in San Francisco as Asst. Personnel Director at the White House Department Store followed by numerous other assignments including the S.F. Convention & Tourist Bureau and in the Office of Emergency Management during World War II. Mom survived the bombings in Shanghai, China, in the 30's while working as secretary to the U.S. Commercial Attaché (which was an endless source of fascinating stories and recollections). She would never hesitate to break out in a song or dance to entertain us, which would always produce big smiles and lots of laughter. Jan had many adopted children and friends who will remember her living example of great courage, creativity, fun and exuberance for life. She loved being with "the kids," which included her own as well their friends. Her cheerful spirit will be deeply missed and long remembered by her four loving children - Renee deBruyn, husband Marcel Barel and daughter Gabrielle Barel of Lee Canyon, NV; Gail Leah deBruyn and David BooCoo Haas of Junction, TX; Patti Popovich and husband Paul White of Alameda, CA; Mike Popovich, wife Nancy Sheppard and her "number one" grandson Tony Popovich of Kentfield, CA and adopted daughter Carolyn Brocco Boucher of San Anselmo, CA. Jan's siblings, Beulah, Katherine and Roger, all predeceased her as well as her husband Steve. Surviving are her loving niece, Bronwen Davis, husband Stan Lindskog of Redmond, WA, loving nephew Roger Pinneo and wife Diana, of Snohomish, WA; nephews Bill Monsen and wife Catherine of Honolulu, HI; Butch Monsen, Dan and Eva Sollars, Steve and Candy Sollars, and Clifford Davis of Astoria, OR; Rolin and Barbara Sollars of Prosper, TX. Her family greatly appreciates and thanks the Aldersly Nursing Staff for their loving care and assistance. Her ashes will be spread on the ocean west of the Golden Gate Bridge near her beloved husband, Stephen Popovich. Jan requested no funeral service, only to celebrate her life and embrace all the memories she left behind. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.

Oh, Jan, I have such fun memories of you growing up in Sausalito with your children. I'm so glad I got to come visit you this summer before your "big trip".
Fondly,
Katie Walker Stecher

What a wonderful tribute to such a vibrant woman. I have a smile on my face thinking of Jan singing and dancing. Right now wherever she is she is the life of the party.
