Jeffrey John (Jeff) Grey Obituary
Jeffrey John Grey (Jeff) Died peacefully on July 29, 2018, surrounded by his wife Linda and his children Menemsha and Jeff, after suffering a heart attack four days earlier at his home in Terra Linda, Calif. Jeff was born in Gloversville, N.Y., on Nov. 13, 1945, the only child of Edward and Marion Maxson Grey. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict and receiving an honorable discharge, Jeff earned his B.A. from Skidmore College on the G.I. Bill. He married Melissa Walsh and had two children, Menemsha and Jeff, moving with his family from Massachusetts to Bar Harbor, Maine, in 1989. Jeff began working at Acadia National Park in 1992, where he met Linda Gregory. They married on Hunter's Beach on Sept. 5, 1999, and adopted a son, Matthew, in July 2004. Jeff was an arborist for the National Park Service, and delighted in being a steward of Acadia's Carriage Road System, reclaiming historic vistas, and rebuilding stone walls. In 2008, Jeff took a position for Marin Open Space and the family moved to Terra Linda. There, they adopted a foster son Eddie, in 2011. Subsequently, they divided their time between Maine and California. Jeff was committed to community involvement, working and volunteering at his sons' schools and fostering young children. He was a talented gardener and a skilled artist and woodworker. He loved the forests and lakes of Maine as well as the deserts and open spaces of California, and was happiest when he was with his family, camping in their VW van or enjoying a family barbecue. Jeff earned the love and respect of all who knew him for his kindness, patience and steady, deep commitment to the people and places he loved. He will be missed by his wife of 19 years, Linda, sons Matthew (age 14) and Eddie (age 10), Linda's parents Ann and Don Gregory; children Menemsha (Sanjeeva) Abeyasekera and Jeffrey Thomas (Mollie) Grey; and grandchildren Gabriel (16) and Natalie Abeyasekera (6) and Maelee Grey (2). The family will hold a celebration of Jeff's life at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Acadia to support the Vista Management Program at Acadia National Park www.friendsofacadia.org/tribute-gift/ or Marin Foster Care Association www.marinfostercare.org.
