JOAN NAUGHTEN Obituary

Joan Naughten Passed away on December 3, 2010 from a long-term illness. She was born May 10, 1931 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was proud of her New York upbringing especially the Scandinavian Bay Ridge area where her parents settled after emigrating from Denmark and Sweden. Joan traveled extensively in the 1950's then moved to San Francisco in 1960 for a new adventure. In 1963, she married James F. Naughten and they lived on Telegraph Hill until 1980. Joan was an active member of the Telegraph Hill Dwellers and served as Secretary for several years. She took great pride in her civic activities in the 1970's including volunteering for the Grant Avenue Chalk-In and Street Fair. In 1980, the family moved to Mill Valley then to Fairfax in 1986. The house in Fairfax was the site of many family celebrations since 1968 when her parents moved to Marin. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother. Joan is survived by her twin daughters, Gabrielle and Nicole Naughten of San Rafael. She will be missed for her wise and worldly advice, culinary talents, New York Times crossword puzzle skills and her great sense of humor. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Harmony House in San Rafael for their kindness and compassion they provided and to Hospice by the Bay for their support in the last few months.

Dear Gabrielle and Nicole,
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I know it's been a difficult few years, but she was fortunate to have her two loving daughters so close and taking good care of her. My thoughts are with you both. Love, Mary
