Kenneth Langton Treganowen Obituary
Kenneth Langton Treganowen June 5, 1927-April 15, 2013 Age 85, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on April 15, 2013. Born in San Francisco on June 5, 1927 the son of Violet and Clarence Treganowen also of San Francisco, he was also a descendent of Samuel W. Langton, a noteworthy Forty-Niner of early California. Ken grew up on Taraval Street in San Francisco, attending West Portal Elementary School and Lincoln High School. After graduation, he attended University of California at Berkeley, School of Business, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Fraternity. During WWII, he served in the US Army. At Cal, he met Laura Anne Springsteen, a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. They were married on September 18, 1949 at Saint John's Presbyterian Church in San Francisco. He and his family lived in Kentfield from 1955, and Ken was widely involved in the community, including a number of years serving on the Kentfield School Board, coaching Little League and soccer, and acting as a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of San Anselmo. He was always known for his friendly manner, a positive outlook on life, and always had a smile - he will be missed by many, particularly his family, and many friends in Marin. For over forty years, Ken made a successful career as a commercial marine insurance broker in San Francisco, owning R.G. Hamilton, which was acquired by Fred S. James (later Sedgwick). He was known as a regular at the Merchants Exchange Club (where he served as President) and as a member of the World Trade Club. Laura Anne predeceased him in 1989. He is survived by his four children David, Peter, and John Treganowen and Dorothy Bell. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Scott Bell, Lauren Treganowen, and Gregory Treganowen, as well as, his son-in-law John Bell and his daughter-in-law Laurie Treganowen. A private service will be held. Monte's Chapel of the Hills 415-453-8440
