LORRAINE STIRLING Obituary

Lorraine Emily Stirling (Escude) Passed away peacefully October 28, 2010, at the age of 93 at the Nazareth House. Born November 23, 1916 in San Francisco, CA to Albert and Mary Escude. The oldest of three children, she grew up in Noe Valley, attending St. James Grammar School and graduating from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1934. Lorraine established her career as a comptometer operator working in downtown San Francisco for Pacific Telephone. On August 2, 1947 she married the love of her life, James Stirling, and settled in San Rafael where together they raised their two sons, Mitchell and Richard. Lorraine was an active member of her parishes; Blessed Sacrament, St. Raphael's and St. Isabella's. She spent her golden years traveling, knitting, playing bridge, and volunteering 15 years at the Nazareth House. Lorraine always enjoyed visiting and keeping in contact with family as evident when she and Jim hosted holidays with family feasts and the annual family bar-b-ques in their glorious backyard. She valued her friends as if they, too, were family. Lorraine will be remembered for her "gift of gab". She could walk into a room full of strangers and enjoy meeting and socializing with everyone. She was thoughtful and never forgot a birthday or special occasion. She was a meticulous woman, paying attention to every detail no matter what the task. She had a kind heart and gentle spirit. She is survived by her son Richard, granddaughter Tiffany Frank (Jesse), sister Lyola, and her dear friend Dorothy Kiernan, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James, son Mitchell and her brother Lloyd Escude. We are sure that her beloved Jim hosted a "celestial family and friends reunion" where Lorraine takes her rightful place. Let us, too, raise our glasses in loving memory of a sweet lady -- she may have been short in stature, but she had a big heart. Memorial service will be held at the Nazareth House this Saturday, November 6, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow at the Stirling residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nazareth House or favorite charity. The family would like to thank the staff of the Nazareth House for their love, kindness, and care.
