Sister M. Carolyn Wagner, O.P. Sister Carolyn Wagner, a Dominican Sister of San Rafael for 64 years, died peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Convent on December 31 at the age of 83. Bertha Agnes Wagner was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of four daughters. Her family moved to Vallejo in the 1940s where she attended St. Vincent Ferrer High School and was taught by the Dominican Sisters. Entering the convent in 1948, she took the name Sister Carolyn. She taught in Catholic schools throughout northern California for 42 years, ministering in Stockton, San Francisco, San Leandro, Livermore, Oakland, Lodi, Daly City, Napa, Pacific Grove, and Antioch. During the summers she served as a librarian at Dominican College in San Rafael, and was librarian at Our Lady of Grace School in Castro Valley from 1991-1995. Once retired from teaching, Sister Carolyn lived in Napa and volunteered at Queen of the Valley Hospital. She came to live at Our Lady of Lourdes Convent in San Rafael in 2000. Sister Carolyn was pre- deceased by her parents, Clair and Susan Wagner and by her sisters, Catherine and Mary Rita Wagner. She is survived by her sister, Suzanne Mack, her nephews, Stuart, Gary, Randy, Tom, Ed and Joe Mack and Benjamin Bryant, her nieces, Pamela Creedon, Sandy Calhoun, Deborah Smith, Sue Wilson, and Lori Bryant, and by her Dominican sisters. The funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, January 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the Dominican Sisters Center, 1520 Grand Avenue in San Rafael. Burial will follow at St. Dominic Cemetery in Benicia.
