Obituary Condolences

Sister Marie Rose Sanguinetti, O.P. Sister Marie Rose Sanguinetti, a Dominican Sister of San Rafael, died peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Convent in San Rafael on June 24. Born in San Francisco in 1917, Marie Rose grew up in a deeply religious family with six brothers and three sisters. Two of her brothers, Edward and Joseph, became Dominican priests. After graduating from Presentation High School, Marie Rose attended business school and worked with a broker before entering the convent in 1940. Sister Rose earned her bachelor's degree and her Master's degree in education from Dominican College. For forty-seven years her ministry was teaching, at Catholic schools in Livermore, Reno, Stockton, Monterey and San Francisco. Sister Rose was a particularly gifted teacher of math and science who showed great patience for those not naturally inclined in those subjects, and highly encouraging of those who showed interest in pursuing studies in those fields. Sister Marie Rose was living and teaching at St. Rose Academy at the time of the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. For ten years she was devoted to maintaining the school's records even as the school closed. She was also well-known in St. Dominic Parish where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Those who knew her best spoke about her generosity of spirit as shown by her willingness to go out of her way to help others, whether it was a student, another sister or a family member. Sister Marie Rose lived the last eight years of her life as part of the community at Our Lady of Lourdes Convent in San Rafael. Even when she could no longer remember people's names, she greeted them with a smile and a blessing. She is predeceased by her nine siblings. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and by her Dominican Sisters. A funeral Mass will take place on Monday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dominican Sisters Center, 1520 Grand Avenue in San Rafael, followed by a burial service at St. Dominic Cemetery in Benicia.
