Al,
This is Clint Wright from Bolinas soccer team. I saw your dad's obit in the paper and wanted to come see you Wednesday night. I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I remember talking with you about our dads and how times could be difficult with their conditions. I've found that after my dad passed I only seem to recall the good times. Hope you are doing well. Clint.

Mario and Carla were so happy the day their grandson, Anton was born. They came to Santa Rosa to hold him at home within hours of his birth. At Mario and Carla's, he spent many happy times. There was always homemade wine, handmade cheeses and the wild mushrooms he loved to forage in the forest. He raised the most delicious vegetables, killer garlic and his roses were enviable. The family story of returning to his home town after being a POW to find Carla was a tear jerker...and she was waiting for him. They married and brought their three young children to America. He lived a remarkable life. May his soul rest in Peace.

Mario and Carla were so happy the day their grandson, Anton was born. They travelled to Santa Rosa from San Rafael to hold him at home within hours of his birth. Anton grew to know many happy times at Nono's. Mario always had homemade wine in the cellar, handmade cheeses and the wild mushrooms he loved to forage in the
forest. Upon discovering the large fungi in the forest, it was reported that he would dance about and sing out with glee. His rows of garden vege-
tables were perfect and he cultivated amazing garlic. His roses were abundant and enviable. He was always generous to Anton giving him $1oo at birthday and Christmas from the time he was little.
The family story of Mario returning to his home town after being a POW (WWII) to find his Love, Carla is a tear jerker. ...and Carla was waiting. They married and came to America with their three small children. He lived a remarkable life and the lessons of kindness, good food, and honest work are enduring. May his soul rest in peace. Love to Mario. Janice Karrman, mother of Anton

Carissimo e dolcissimo zio Mario,

In the 70's I met Mario through my good friend, Terry Lennon, who worked with Mario. We visited Mario's home, saw his garden, the abundant mushrooms drying in the basement, and the warmth of his home life. I was so inspired by Marios grape vines, that he generously gave me starts, and Terry and I planted them in a garden. Those vines are still growing vigorously, with thick gnarly trunks,a legacy to Mario and his Italian roots. Terry loved Mario, and loved to joke with him and his brother Al. Terry recounted how Mario would go into the woods of the MMWD and find boletus mushrooms under the pine trees. He was a good man, and now, knowing that he endured a prison camp, and bravely came to America to start a new life, adds to my respect for Mario. With all love and best regards, Linda Novy

I remember Mario telling me what it was like for him coming to San Rafael from the small town in Italy where his family is from. He said it was the land of plenty; a paradise really. "In the old country you might get a chicken a week", he would say, "where here you could get more than one chicken, and you could get one whenever you wanted". His back yard had fruit trees and red roses. His home always neatly kept with trimmed shrubs and cut grass. I would stop and talk with his devoted daughter Maria walking down 5th street bringing him home a good lunch from Joe's restaurant. He was always friendly, joking around, and loved to talk about the old days. He has a great family and a great daughter; Maria. My heat felt sympathies go out to Maria and her family. David Salesky

I remember the day your entire family came to America to live. My Nonno and Nonni were so excited to have you here and I met new family that day. Let's keep in touch. My condolences to all.

My sympathy to your family. I worked six summers in the 60's at MMWD and your father was very kind and helpful to me. I will always remember him as very hard working and a true gentleman-
