Paul Roger Rice Obituary
Paul Roger Rice Age 89, long time Mill Valley resident, passed away, on April 22, 2013, with his children by his side, after a heroic battle with cancer. Paul, born January 27, 1924 in the Territory of Hawaii, graduated from George Washington H.S. in San Francisco and in 1943 enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He flew 63 missions in a B-17 over Europe with the 99th bomb group while stationed in Italy. He attended Pacific University, graduated with a doctor of optometry degree and practiced for 46 years in Mill Valley. He was a devoted husband to the late Loretta for over 56 years. Paul was a husband, father, grandfather, optometrist, professor, craftsman, builder, inventor, volunteer, philosopher and writer, a true renaissance man. He built boats, houses, decks, stairs, gardens, and furniture for himself, friends and family. His greatest achievements in life were his long marriage to his dear wife Loretta, and raising their children. He is survived by his children Paul Runyon Rice (Bess) of Sonoma, Mary Poulhazan (Claude) of San Bruno and Laura Stock (Roger) of Elk Grove and his beloved grandchildren Alex, Zachary, Emily, SolŠne, Alexandra and Madeline. Paul will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Family and friends are welcome for visitation Friday May 3, from 10:00 AM-12:30 PM at Adobe Creek Funeral Home, 331 Lakeville St., Petaluma CA. Burial at 1:30 PM Mt. Olivet Cemetery with a memorial service following. Memorials may be made to www., VFW Tamalpais Post 72 or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
