PETER WILLIAM PALMER

Peter William Palmer Peter William Palmer made his transition to a higher dimension on December 28, 2010. Born 82 years ago in Rochester, New York, he was the son of Charles and Marjorie Palmer, and grew up on the shore of Lake Ontario. While a student at University of Rochester, he married Melba Potter, an organ major at Eastman School of Music. They graduated and moved to Berkeley, CA, where he earned a Master of Social Welfare degree from University of California. In 1958 he joined the Marin County Social Services Department. While there, he served as Chairman of the Marin Mental Health Advisory Board. Peter is survived by his wife of 61 years of marriage and his daughter Melody. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Judith Archer, who is survived by three daughters and their families. Following an early retirement, he became a volunteer docent at Audubon Canyon Ranch, and volunteered at Family Service League Thrift Shop, Senior Companions and Marindale School for the Orthopedically Handicapped Children. Becoming a 10 gallon blood donor illustrates his very caring nature. He served as an ordained elder and deacon of the Presbyterian Church. In his final years he helped non-profit agencies of Marin raise challenge grants through Marin Community Foundation. He enjoyed reading, attending operas, concerts and plays, baseball games, travel to tropical islands, and gourmet food. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Congregational Church, 145 Rock Hill Drive, Tiburon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marin Symphony, Ritter Center, St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room, Family Service Agency or a charity of your choice.
