RAHEL FISCHER Obituary
Rahel Fischer Born August 9, 1941, Minneapolis, MN. Beloved wife, mother, friend, and eternal student. Sober 33 years. Rahel, born Virginia Margaret O'Brien, left us on Jan. 27, 2011 in Novato, CA. After overcoming cancer three times before and developing C.O.P.D., lung cancer finally took her life after a brave fight. Rahel grew up in Minneapolis and married Daniel Fischer in 1962. They had three children, Benjamin, Aaron and Batya. In 1973 the family settled in Marin County, CA. Now using her Jewish name of Rahel, she divorced Dan in 1974. She worked her way up to editorial assistant at N.O.A.A.'s Tiburon Laboratory before her health necessitated early retirement. Sheila Rhyne was her partner from 1983 - 1989. In 1990 Rahel, Aaron and Batya settled in Fairfax. In 1998, Rahel's granddaughter Bridget Fischer-Linkogle was born. She will live forever in our hearts. Many thanks to all her friends, family and helpers who helped in the final days. Huge thanks to cousins Seri Gomberg Malool, Allison Hettle and Patricia Trudell and friends Frances Heath, Sharon Stiles, Myrna Vladich, Wendy Goldberg and Noah Hammond, Patty Bruszewski and Joan Boykin. Special thanks to Skip and Bob Brown, Oscar Salibert, Clive Julianus, Phil and Melinda Anderson, Charles and Sandra Massen, Lexi Hendricks and the staff at Marin General Hospital and Country Villa Novato Health Care. She had her body donated to science.
