VICTOR KOLON Obituary

Victor Vladimir Kolon Jun 30, 1940Nov. 29, 2010 We have lost our valiant and beloved "King", for whom his family always came first. A life-long resident of Marin, Victor passed away at home (as he wished) in Terra Linda after a long illness. Born in San Francisco at St Mary's Hospital to Russian immigrant parents, Walter P. and Valentina Kolon. He grew up in Fairfax and attended Deer Park, Central, Drake High School, College of Marin and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Political Science. He worked for Ronald Antonioli Construction before starting his own family-run business, Kolon Construction. Together the Kolon's built, renovated and maintained numerous commercial and residential buildings throughout Marin County and the Bay Area. Of all his accomplishments, Victor's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was the devoted Husband and life partner to Gabriella Marion Kolon for nearly 50 years; they raised their family in Forest Knolls. He was the loving Father to Walter (Susie) Kolon of Marshall, Gabriella (Scott) Urban of Novato, Vasily (Teri) Kolon of Pleasanton, and Christy (Don) Wick of Fairfax. He was the adoring Grandfather to Cory and Bryan Bostjancic, Dylan and Haley Kolon, Sasha and Sonya Urban and Michael Wick. He is survived by brother Walter (Audrey) Kolon of Portencross, Scotland, brother-in-law, Igor (Jackie) Dantes of San Anselmo, nephew Donald (Alicia) Campbell and niece Jeanne Boemish of Southern California. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Kaiser Hospital in Terra Linda for their care and support, and for helping Victor gain another decade in which to enjoy his flourishing family. In honor of Victor's love for animals, donations can be made to The Marin Humane Society (415) 883-4621

Victor,
Today marks 10-years that we've been missing you. As you look down on us all, I'm confident you are proud of what each of your children and grandchildren have become. Their love for you is strong. Look over them and keep them safe.

Dear Victor,

As we look up we can see you wandering around the heavens above, bestowing your compassion and grace on all your fellow creatures, both great and small (even the 2-legged kind!).

We will miss your smile; your warm chuckle and your gentle soul. Most of all we will miss your presence. But we know your spirit will live on, if only to make this world a better place because your love for your family was inspirational, touching, humble, sweet and gentle- just like we will always remember you; just like we will always love you.

Pop-

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't cry because I miss you and it's hard to come to the reality I won't ever see you again. But, there also isn't a day that passes I don't think of you and smile and I am so proud to be your daughter. My life has been filled with happy memories from childhood to the present. I hear your gentle yet strong voice...I imagine your large, sturdy frame yet in reality you were a teddy bear...I see the love you have shown all of us- especially Mama. I know she was the love of your life and I feel fortunate to have grown up in a home where two people cherish each other the way you two did. I think of all pain you endured and not wanting to let it show, even with a touch of pink on your lips from the chapstick. I have to laugh when I think of our last day together and I smile at your clear minded request of creamy horse radish with roast beef on a french roll. There are so many memories and I thank you for all that you have instilled in me. I also have peace believing you know how much we love you. I miss you Papa. I hope you have found peace...a place free of pain and a comfortable seat as you watch over all of us.

"Its only when you grow up, and step back from him for your own career and your own home, its only then that you can measure his greatness and fully appreciate it. Pride re-inforces love".

Margaret Truman wrote this about her father- President Harry Truman.

I fully appreciate what she felt. I have thought more and more over the years about all the sacrifices, responsibility and love that, both you and Mama gave us. What an amazing responsibility with 4 kids. We have had a wonderful and rich childhood, nothing could have been better. I so appreciate and thank both of you. I could not have asked for a better family. Thank you for making me who I am. I am sorry I couldn't help things easier. you were so strong and kept on fighting. Mama has been such a strong foundation and has sacrificed so much caring for you because of her love and devotion. Your relationship..almost 50 years is wonderful. Putting together family photos and all of the things we have done together reminds me of what a strong and vibrant person you were. I always admired your strength and hard work. I wish I could have made your dream of having a ranch come true. I still want Mama to find her place, it will happen and thanks to you. I miss you, Papa, and never was ready to say goodbye to you. I wish I had just one more chance to say hello to your, give you a hug and tell you how much I love you and appreciate you. Your son, forever

I really don't know how to express my sympathy for your loss. I can only hope that the love around you will help fill the gap. I know what I had to under go and that it is neither a happy one or sad with so many people there for you. Please include me in your group of friends and call on me for anything you need. I will always remember Grandpa holding me while at Vas' in San Anselmo. I remember all the birds in Forest Knolls and the times living down stairs. I'm so thankful for all the times I spent with Grandpa and all the love he showed to us. I'm so grateful for the times he called saying he saw me in the paper and how proud he was. I love you Grandpa. Your love and joy will carry on in all of us. Love your grandson.

Victor,Pop,Santa Claus...
As I walked into the hospital room with your wife in my big, bright, red jacket waving to you I realized you couldn't see me!Yours eyes fixated in gaze into Sasha's eyes, the words from your mouth, "I am so glad to see you". In your eyes I saw the love you felt towards one another after so many years, I thought it was the first year in which lover's look at one another. I cherished that moment. You will be missed something fierce but will live forever in our hearts.
