Craig Davis Schwarz Age 74 was hospitalized on a return trip from his beloved Alaska to San Francisco and died on July 2, 2014 in Burien, WA. He was born to Herman Karl Schwarz and Deloris Owen Schwarz in San Francisco, CA. He married Martha Louise Rice on January 22, 1966 in San Luis Obispo. Their children are June Marie Schwarz and Scott Arthur Schwarz. He is survived by sister Sondra K. Parsons (James), brother Herman A Schwarz and was preceded in death by sister Susan E. Huebsch (Fritz). He is survived by brother-in-law L. Lyle Rice (Sandy) and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Craig attended George Washington High School and The City College of San Francisco where he was a record holding swimmer. He was a submariner serving on the USS Swordfish 579 before attending California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree. He joined the family business as the third generation of the Schwarz Sausage Company in San Francisco. He lived his life in San Francisco, Larkspur and Aleknagik, AK. Craig was a true artisan, a hands-on polymath, and over a rich and fascinating lifetime he seriously followed his interests from propagating Japanese maples, beekeeping, botany, carpentry, farming to spending winters off the grid in a cabin in Alaska. He held a life long interest in hunting and fishing. He was the staunchest of friends; one of his greatest talents was his ability to relate genuinely to anyone he met. He embodied, as much as anyone can, virtue. He was brave, steadfast, and generous, with a kind and subtle sense of humor. Craig waged a determined battle against cancer and was blessed during the years of treatment to continue traveling and having adventures. He was fortunate to be surrounded by family and a family of friends, who are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Larkspur home on July 26, 2014 between two and five in the afternoon.
